New York, NY – Summer
is officially here and you know what that means: It’s
time to show some skin. If you thought your
only options to remove unwanted or excess body hair
were shaving, waxing or electrolysis, think again.
Dr. Jim Baral of American
Dermatology Center and Assistant Clinical Professor
Dermatology and Pediatrics Mount Sinai School of Medicine
offers three innovative treatments to remove unwanted
hair easily and effectively.
Need a quickie? Dr. Baral’s
new Lyra Hair
Removal System offers immediate and partial-permanent
hair removal. The Lyra laser delivers long-pulsed
laser light down to the follicles, destroying them
or impairing their growth. The laser beam is computer
guided and passes through a cooling window that protects
skin. The Lyra can be used on all skin types and colors
– including suntanned skin because it travels directly
to hair follicles bypassing the skin’s pigment. Patients
need at least six sessions for optimal results.
Guys, unless you’re Grizzly
Adams, summer is the ideal time to get rid of that
excess back, chest and arm hair. Dr. Baral’s Diode LightSheer Laser
Hair Removal procedure is perfect for men
with an abundance of dark hair covering their bodies.
The Diode laser emits light, which is then absorbed
by the pigment in the hair follicles. The laser pulses
for a fraction of a second vaporizing the pigment
and disabling several follicles at a time eliminating
or significantly impeding hair regrowth. The LightSheer’s
special contact-cooling handpiece cools and protects
surrounding skin, while bringing the laser energy
as close to the hair root as possible. At least six
sessions are required for optimal results.
Blondes can have even more
fun with Dr. Baral’s SoftLight Laser Hair Removal.
Since blond and white hair has little or none of the
necessary pigment needed to destroy hair follicles,
other laser treatments aren’t effective. This hair
management procedure uses a low-powered YAG laser
and a proprietary carbon lotion to gently remove unwanted
hair. The lotion moves down into the follicles taking
the place of the absent pigment and destroys the hair
follicles. In most cases, hair will regrow thinner
and finer. Sessions are required on an ongoing basis
for optimal results.
Depending upon the areas
to be treated by each procedure, sessions may last
between 15 minutes and one hour and may require a
local anesthetic cream.
